Betty Markelz Nee: Linko Age 85, passed away peacefully, Tuesday September 24, 2013 at Walnut Grove Care Center in Morris. Loved by everyone who knew her. Survived by her daughter Dawn (Karl) Knoop; son Bill (Marianne) Markelz; blessed with grandchildren Trapper (Maureen) Markelz, Todd (Nicole) Markelz, Andrew (Lindsey) Marklez, Katie Markelz, Cody, Ryan Markelz and Shannon (Brad) Vetter; doubly blessed with great grandchildren Gage, Gavin, Cohen, Hannah, Lucy, Jack, Alice, Evan and Oliver; one sister Cecelia (John deceased) Jubera; special sister-in-law Lucy Linko and special daughter-in-law Sally. Numerous loving nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by her husband John W. Markelz; one son Richard A. Markelz; great granddaughter June; parents Vasil and Elizabeth Linko; brothers John (Ann), Charles (Theresa), Steven (Janet) and Joseph Linko; two sisters Mary (Mac) Makaloski and Frances (Tom) Maxwell. Born in Joliet a lifelong resident of Crest Hill. Graduated from Joliet Township High School Central, receiving her nursing degree from the School of Nursing in St. Charles, IL. Betty worked at St. Joseph Hospital retiring after 25 years of serve. She was a caring nurse, taking care of all family and friends in need. An avid Cubs fan, spending her retirement reading, traveling and enjoying her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Devoted Catholic attending St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Funeral from the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, Saturday September 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. to St. Ambrose Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation Friday 4-8 p.m. Memorials to the Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
