Carol M Westphal

May 18, 1933 — December 30, 2020

Carol Westphal, nee Schadek, passed away December 30, 2020. She was the wife of the late Sanger K. Westphal, daughter of Charles & Alma Schadek, mother of Scott (Laura) Westphal and Lori (Paul) Krause, grandmother to Natalie Westphal and Kevin (Becca) Krause, sister of Loris Parker and aunt of Craig Parker.

In the 40 years that Carol and Sanger were blessed to have together, Carol served as a Deacon and Elder at First Presbyterian Church of Joliet where they were both very involved. Both of them thoroughly enjoyed their walking tours in England and classical music. After the passing of her husband, she found joy in family and friends, always remembering them with greeting cards. She joined prayer group (another family of friends), read books, knitted sewed, cooked, walked, and enjoyed several trips to Door County with the girls. She visited her sister often in Germantown, WI. Carol was generous with her time, helpful to anyone who needed her. There was a sparkle in her smile and a twinkle in her eyes that made everyone feel appreciated.

She was a dedicated housewife and mother. She kept a tidy home and prided herself in producing nutritional meals. She ensured that nothing was wasted and took recycling and protecting the planet very seriously. Carol’s favorite singer was Josh Groban and greatest passion was gardening. She knew every name and description of plants and wildflowers. She was in her yard daily when the weather permitted, keeping a lovely landscape of trees, ground cover, plants, flowers and wild-flowers. She was very frugal enabling her to have a nice wardrobe and the equipment needed to keep up her beautiful yard, managed mostly by her own hands. Carol worked in the resource department at the downtown Joliet Public Library for many years.

She was very spiritual and the Lord called her to serve Him along with our father.

Due to current health risks, a memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Joliet at a later date.

A special thank you to Cat Anderson of Joliet-Carol’s primary caregiver and advocate, even after her move to Rock Run Memory Care. They had a very special connection, spent much time together and Carol thought of Cat as a dear friend.

Donations can be made to Hopeful Tails Rescue in Joliet or First Presbyterian Church in Carol’s name.
