Donald L McCowan, “Mac”, age 80, passed away suddenly at his home in New Lenox, IL on April 8, 2022.
Born in Joliet IL on February 17, 1942 to the late Donald J and Olive R (Kweiser) McCowan.
Don graduated from Joliet Catholic High Class of 1960 and Joliet Junior College Class of 1962.
Don was a very proud American and enlisted in the United States Army in 1965. He was a member of the 2nd Armored Calvary Division stationed in Germany.
Don worked for Commonwealth Edison – Dresden Station, serving them for 25 years. He retired from Caterpillar Logistical Services after serving them for 13 years.
Don was an avid reader and always had a book or his Kindle in his hands.
He was very active in the band booster programs in New Lenox while his children were in school. He held positions in the booster programs of both the New Lenox Grade School Band and the Lincoln-Way Marching Knights Band. His dedication to these two organizations spanned over 16 years.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William and Shirley (Edmonds) Blaylock, Bernard and Alberta (Sturtz) Fulkerson, John and Betty (Edmonds) Debelak, Roger Taylor and Vonna (Edmonds) Cantu.
Don is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rose (Edmonds) and his children, Scott M of New Lenox IL and Erin K. of Woodstock IL. Don is survived by his sister, Susan of Westmont IL and brother, Douglas (Sallie) of Florida, sister-in-law Barbara Taylor (Edmonds) of Ft Myers FL and brother-in-law John Cantu of Joliet IL. Don is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services provided by Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home on Saturday, April 23, 2022. Visitation from 9:00-11:00am with a service from 11:00-11:30. Interment directly follows the service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Joliet IL.
To honor Don’s love for animals, in lieu of flowers, memorials to the Will Country Humane Society, 24109 Seil Road, Shorewood IL 60404 would be appreciated.
