Doris Mae Ferguson, 91, passed away March 12, 2024 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home. Doris was born August 25, 1932 in Joliet to Bertram and Mary Anne “Mae” (Sullivan) Stein. A graduate of St. John’s Grade School and Providence High School, she resided in the Joliet area her entire life. She was employed at the Twin Door Restaurant, Ruberoid, and Jewel. However, her most important work was done as a wife, mother, grandmother and caretaker. She leaves behind sons, Gregg (Jodi Wartenberg) Vershay and James Ferguson; daughters, Lori (Mark Krusik) Konkel and Lynn (William) Martin; grandchildren Anton, Tara, Lisa, Vanessa, Jarrod (Harriet), Taylor (Katie), Kailee (Aristeo) and Mateo; great grandchildren, Ariadne, Hunter and Maddux; brothers, Charles (late Ninian) Stein and Robert (Phyllis) Stein, also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Cynthia in infancy; spouses, Richard Vershay and Walter Ferguson; grandchildren Nicholas and Shanna; brother Eugene (late Bernadine) Stein. The family wishes to thank Lightways Hospice and Sunny Hill Nursing Home for their excellent care, especially the 5th Avenue staff who lovingly cared for Doris in her final days.
Per Doris’s request, there will be no visitation or service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Friends of Sunny Hill (https://friendsofsunnyhill.com/) would be appreciated.
