Emery M. Subar, Jr. (Bill), age 78, passed away at home on Sunday, December 20, 2020, due to complications of COPD and CHF. Born in Joliet on September 19, 1942, Bill was the only son of Evelyn (nee Scheefeldt) and Emery Milan Subar, Sr. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary Nativity Church, and he attended grade school there. He graduated from Joliet Catholic High School in 1960 and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1963. After marrying Nancy (nee Garrone) in 1967, he started working in the furniture industry at Fitzgerald's Furniture in Joliet. He finished his career at Smith Furniture and Carpet in Manhattan.
Bill and Nancy raised their three loving daughters in their home of over 50 years in Elwood. Bill enjoyed spending time at his summer cottage on the Kankakee River, bowling, solving crossword puzzles, and being with his grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife, Nancy, his three daughters, Lisa (Mark) Fetters, Joan (Michael) Papes, and Joyce (Jeffrey) Blum, his grandchildren, Kela and Jason Fetters, Maria, Ike, Natalie, and Geno Papes, Max and Evelyn Blum, his cousins Patti (nee Riblon) Dagdigian and Edward Riblon, and his Garrone and Nannemann nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents and cousin, Cheri (nee Riblon) Williams.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 27, at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, 1500 Black Road, Joliet, from 12 to 3 p.m. Due to COVID-19 restrictions face masks are required, and social distancing will be observed. Funeral services will be Monday, December 28, at 10:00 am at St. Mary Nativity Church, 706 N Broadway Street, Joliet. Click here to view Bill's Mass. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Emery’s name to St. Mary Nativity Church and School or Joliet Area Community Hospice.
