Florence J. White

January 7, 1931 — July 1, 2022

Florence J. White (Klipfel), age 91, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2022. Born in Chicago, Illinois to Myrtle (Rother) and Edward Klipfel.

 

Survived by a daughter, Denise (John) Schraufnagel, and two sons, Kent (Anne) and Brant (Marianne) White; grandchildren Logan Schraufnagel and Alaina (Matheus) Fernandes, Alex and Kendall White, and Camden, Henry, and Bennett White; great-grandchild Brianna Schraufnagel; and five nieces.

 

Preceded in death by her husband, Robert White, her parents, Edward and Myrtle (Rother) Klipfel, her sister Ethel Shaw, and by one grandson, Zachary White.

 

Graduate of Joliet Township High School (1948). Became a Registered Medical Technologist of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists after completing her coursework at the School of Medical Technology of Norwegian American Hospital. Worked at Argonne National Laboratory where she conducted and published research for the Atomic Energy Commission from 1956 - 1960.

 

Florence had a curious and adventurous nature and loved to travel. She loved the arts, especially opera. She was very active in the community, at all levels. Was active with the Will County Humane Society and volunteered her time reading at area schools. She had a lifelong love of birding, was very involved in the Will County Audubon Society, and was instrumental in establishing and preserving the Lake Renwick Rookery and Nature Preserve. She was an active member of Hope United Methodist Church. 

 

Visitation Thursday, 4:30 - 7:00pm at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home. Funeral service Friday, July 8, 2022, at 11:00am at the funeral home, interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorials to Hope United Methodist Church.
