Gabriel Carreno, Sr.
Age 83, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at his home with family by his side.
Survived by his devoted and loyal wife, Enedina Carreno; children Julia (Ed) Clemens, Anna (Richard) Groff, Susan (Michael) Kljaich, Gabriel (Jeannie) Carreno Jr., Adam (Deb) Juarez, Mark (Patricia) Juarez, Terra (Phil) Chapman and Nicole (Pete) Proimos; grandchildren Sara, Kevin, Eric, Ashton, Cecelia, Joseph, Abigail, Max, Shaylie, Payton, Mason, Westin and Andreana; numerous great grandchildren and one great great grandson; brother Juan Carreno; special nephew Israel (Eloisa) Carreno. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents Tuburcio Carreno and Vicenta Blanco Carreno; siblings Manuela, Guadalupe, Humberto, Jesus and Arturo; grandson Genaro Leal Jr.; great granddaughter Hailey Jo Lynn Walker.
He was born in Nuevo Leon, Mexico and resided in Joliet, Illinois for most of his life.
Gabriel spent 42 years in promoting culture, leadership, and public services in the Joliet’s Hispanic Community.
In his leisure time, he loved to conversate and joke around with his patrons at the bar he owned. He enjoyed reading books, and was on a Mexican fast pitch league, an avid bowler, and a great pool shooter.
Gabriel had a big heart and was a very generous person. A person who would like to support everyone in everything. It made his day to hear about his kids and grandkids accomplishments. His great grandchildren excel in school and sports warmed his heart.
