Lois K. Benich Lois K. Benich, of Joliet, IL, passed away October 11, 2013. Preceded in death by her parents John and Barbara Benich and sister Dolores Surd. Lois is survived by her sister Beverly (Richard) Lasky; loved aunt of John (Jane) Surd, Felicia (Anthony) Boldrini, Briana (Larry) Domeracki, Peter (Linn) Surd, Leann (Brad) Maggart, Jeff (Karen) Lasky, Suzanne (Hal) Lusk, James (Dana) Surd, Kevin (Tonya) Lasky, Michael (Sherry) Surd, Tricia (Ryan) Dammeyer. Treasured "Great" aunt to 25 and dear friend to many. Lois graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, DePaul University (BS), Northern Illinois University (MS) and received an honorary PhD from Lewis University in 1994. Lois was named director of St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1970 and President of College of Nursing in 1987. Under her leadership the school obtained accreditation from the IL Board of Professional Regulation, IL Board of Professional Education, National League for Nursing and North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Institutions resulting in the formation of St. Joseph College of Nursing. Funeral from the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, 1500 Black Rd, Friday October 18, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. to St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation Thursday, October 17 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home.
