Margaret Helen Comstock (nee Drotar) age 98, late of Joliet, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024.
Marge was born on November 22nd,1925 in Campbell, Ohio. She grew up during the Great Depression, moved to Chicago as a young woman to attend Nursing school where she met her husband John Leo Comstock (late January 8, 2000).
Marge worked nights as an RN at Silver Cross Hospital for many years. After that she worked for Dr. Paul Morimoto as his Surgical Assistant. Marge retired from nursing and became a successful Real Estate Agent for Bell Realty. She was a great example of a woman who could do and have it all.
Throughout her life she had many hobbies which included traveling, bowling, golfing, ceramics and reupholstering furniture. She was a master crafter who created unique holiday decorations, table decorations, flower arrangements etc. Her Pine Cone Wreaths were legendary in the Comstock family.
Marge was a devoted wife to John Leo, mother to John (Angie) Comstock and Melanie (Jim) Shawmeker: grandmother to John (Jen), Michael (Kelly), Patrick, Andrew (Monica), Dan (Annabelle), Amanda Comstock and Brett (Magellan) Shawmeker. Great grandchildren include Temperance Comstock, Allistaire Bergly, Michael Comstock Jr. and August Comstock. She was a mother figure to her nephews Kevin and Keith Redmond.
She will be forever remembered and dearly missed.
Visitation will be held Sunday, June 30th from 2-5 pm at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, 1500 Black Road, Joliet, IL 60435. A private service will be held for her family on Monday, July 1, 2024. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Lightways Hospice House or United Service Organization (USO) would be appreciated.
