Margaret C. Smith

Margaret Cunningham Smith (Nicol) 90 years old, of Joliet Illinois, passed away peacefully on March 23^, 2022, after a long battle with Alzheimer/Dementia.

Margaret graduated from Joliet Township High School Class of 1949.  She went on to work at Gerlach Barklow,  as well as Joliet Public School District #86 retiring from Washington Jr High School Cafeteria after 25+ years. Margaret was involved with her children’s schools (Raynor Park and Joliet Central H.S.), and in many faucets’ of Westminster Presbyterian Church.  Margaret loved cooking, crocheting, reading and word search puzzles.   She enjoyed her weekly outing with her sister Nancy.

Margaret was preceded in death by, her husband, Donald D. Smith; Parents William and Margaret (Findlay) Nicol; daughter In-Law Karen Smith; sister-in-law Gladys Tuma (Ralph); brother-in-law William Smith; Uncles and Aunts; Nan Reed (Joseph), William Findlay, Alex Findlay, Jenny MacIntyre (Archie); cousins; William Findlay Jr. (Beverly), Bruce Findlay, Father Wilson Reed, Wray Findlay, Jan DeLuka.

Margaret is survived by her sister Nancy Nicol; children David Smith (Jean); Dawn Banks (Larry); Mark Smith; Margaret Ann (Peg) Schroll (David);  Grandchildren, Michael Malik (Erin), Matthew Malik (Yuko), Scott Banks;  Jim Lowry (Tina), Jeff Lowry (Saine);  Megan Petzko (Kyle), Kevin Gillaspie, Kristin Gillaspie; Great Grandchildren;  Taylor Malik, Evelyn, Finley Malik-Volland;  Michelle, George, Sophia Malik;  Sadie, Matthew, Cassie Wilmoth, Kai Hunley; Sydney Dupuis;  special cousin Kathryn Findlay; nephew Frank Rasmusson.

Services will be held Monday, March 28, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, with Rev. Matthew Robinson officiating.   Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park.   Visitation Sunday 2-6 pm.   Memorials to Westminster Presbyterian Church or Lightways Hospice would be appreciated.
