Maria Luz Becerra Saldana

 Departed this life on April 10, 2025 at her home in Joliet, IL at the age of 90. Luz was born on May 5, 1934, in San Francisco del Rincon, Guanajuato, Mexico. In 1954, she married J. Carmen Saldana in their hometown. In 1957 she arrived in Joliet to join her husband to make a better life with their two sons and her future family. 

A lifetime homemaker, but worked throughout her life as a seamstress at the Joliet Clothing Mart. Her pride and joy was cooking for her family and friends and teaching her daughters how to cook her many recipes she brought with her from Mexico. Luz enjoyed spending time with her many grandchildren and their families. 

Preceded in death by her beloved husband, J. Carmen and one son Jose Jesus (In Infancy); daughter-in-law, Dawn (Tade) Saldana. Parents, Jesus Becerra and Alejandra Angel Becerra and 2 sisters and 1 brother.

 Survived by her eight children, Sergio, Ruben (Pauline), Jaime (Elizabeth), Leticia Lara, Armando (Tammy), Maria Marinez, Ada Luz Moreno, Alejandra (Brian) Benton; Grandmother of 18, Terra Wentz, Anthony (Tina) Saldana, Diane (Jeffrey) Jones, Christopher and Shane (Stephanie) Saldana, Angelica, Michael (Lisa), Rebecca Lara, Aaron and Adam Saldana, Stacey (Eric) Schlottman, Amanda and Jimmy (Alisha) Marinez, Jesse and Gabrielle Luz Moreno, Marissa, Noah and Jacob Benton. Great Grandmother to 20, Erick, Nathan, Justin, Kevin, Parker, Graham Wentz, Antonio and Angelina Saldana, Xena and Xane Hornbeck, Emma and Bradley Schlottman, Mikey, Anthony, Gio Lara, Anthony Marinez, Jayden Lopez, Julian Moreno, Rex and Aria Marinez. Great-Great Grandmother to Arianna Marinez, Taylyn Hornbeck. Surviving also are her many nieces and nephews in Joliet, California, Iowa and Mexico, She will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her. She will remain in our hearts forever and remembered whenever we indulge in her many recipes.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 14, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. with funeral services at 7:30 p.m. at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home. Private interment will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
