Age 88, passed away Sunday July 31, 2022 at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center.
Survived by her beloved husband Leon Wirt; devoted children Dennis (Stephanie) Field; Judy (Martin) Potorny; daughter-in-law Kim Field; son-in-law Scott (Sheila) Johnson, step daughter Marti (Doug) Wood; beloved grandchildren Curt Phillips, Sarah (Toby) Doherty, Suzanne Field, Cameron Johnson, Connor and Christopher Speakman-Field and Aaron Field, Holli Wood, A.J. Wood; great grandson Prestyn Miller; Sister Margie Hannah; sister-in-law Shirley Laidler. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by her first husband Charles Field; one daughter Susan Johnson; grandson Corey Johnson; parents Cyril and Marjorie (Hawley) Neverman; brothers Dan (Winnie) Neverman, Dick Neverman; brother-in-law Jim Hannah; three nephews David and Tommy Neverman and Ricky Vrencur.
Born in Tomahawk, WI, and an area resident since 1942. Graduated from Joliet Township High School and continued her education at Eastern Illinois University, College of St. Francis and Lewis University. She was a student teacher at Pershing Elementary School, before starting to teach at Chaney Monge School for 26 years.
Member of the International Order of Kings Daughters and Sons, Jennie Lee Circle for over 58 years. Volunteered at Silver Cross Hospital. Family and friendships were deeply important to Mary Lou. She had a diverse, rich set of interests which she enjoyed throughout her life that included literature, playing bridge and dominos, travel, the theatre, admiring nature and national parks, and cheering the Chicago White Sox.
Funeral services will be held, Friday, August 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 4th from 3-7 at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home and Friday morning at church from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m.
