Mary Joan McAsey Rommel "Joanie" Nee: Whalen Passed away peacefully on Sunday February 19, 2012 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center. Survived by her husband of 40 years Roger Rommel; her children Monica (Marc) Frost, Colleen (Raymond) Ryan, Tim (Sheila) McAsey and Jennifer Rommel. Grandmother to 9 Michael and Madeline Frost, Matthew,John, Michael and Meaghan Ryan, Joe, Moira and Jon McAsey. Dear sister of Joe Whalen, sister-in-law of Suzanne Whalen. Preceded in death by her first husband Joseph M. McAsey; her parents Monica and Joseph F. Whalen; her brother Martin J. Whalen. Lifetime member of the Cathedral. Graduate of St. Francis Academy. After being widowed at the young age of 27, with three small children to raise, she went on to a successful career selling World Book Encyclopedia. And later owned an antique business in Plainfield. Her greatest loves were playing Bridge, target shooting and enjoying family and friends at the Shack. Funeral from the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, Thursday February 23, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. to the Cathedral of St. Raymond's for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday 2-7 p.m.
