Michael (Mick, Mickey) T. McGovern Jr.
Born January 10, 1937, passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer on December 3, 2022, with his family by his side.
Michael was born in Chicago, moved to Lockport then to Plainfield where he lived for the past 48 years. He and his beloved wife Beatrice spent winters in their Scottsdale, AZ condo for the past 24 years. He graduated from Lockport Township High School. Michael spent his career in the Auto Insurance Industry as owner of McGovern Appraisal Service and later retiring from General Casualty Insurance Co. He was an avid car and Corvette enthusiast and thoroughly enjoyed woodworking. He served as President of the Plainfield Junior Cats youth football program and was instrumental in the construction of the football field announcement tower at Four Seasons Park. Recently, Michael donated his time to the Ready Set Ride Therapy Barn and was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Michael was dedicated to his family by always lending a helping hand on countless projects and by his willingness to lend words of wisdom when needed.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Beatrice (Alvarado) McGovern; Brothers David (Nancy) Lennartz, Jerry Lennartz, Georgie Lennartz; children Kim (Wes) Root, Michael (Lisa) McGovern, John (Phyllis) McGovern, Julie Porcaro, Karen Krzywanos, Kimberly (Bryan) Papesh, Brian (Mara) McGovern; grandchildren Tiffany Lohmar, Dixie Lohmar, Taylor McGovern Lummus, Alyssa McGovern, Kristina Gonzales, John Paul McGovern, Joseph Porcaro, Alexandra Porcaro, Jacob Papesh, Olivia Papesh, Nicolette Krzywanos, Benjamin McGovern and Mia McGovern; and 8 great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents Michael and Mary McGovern; stepmother Martha McGovern; son William Krzywanos; sisters Patricia McGovern and Jeanne Fuhrman; sons-in-law Joel Porcaro and Donald Lohmar.
Funeral services for Michael will be held at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, Friday December 9, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. to St. Ambrose Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation Thursday 4-8 p.m. Memorials in his name to the American Cancer Society or St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
