“Uncle Ray”

Age 87, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024 at his home with family by his side.

Survived by his loving nieces and nephews, Susan (John) Curry, Theresa (James) Woodhall and Tanya (Justin) Emmert; great nieces and great nephews Johnny (Kristyn) Curry, Charles (Tanya) Curry, Crystal (Robert) Kirby, Heather (Ronny) Nielsen, Amanda (Stephen) Chaves, Gage Curry, Haylie Curry and Skyler Curry; numerous great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents Charles and Anna Louise (White) Gurnitz; brothers Charles, Frank and Joseph Gurnitz; two nieces Mary Lindow and Debra Richardson; five nephews Frankie, Charles, Dennis, Richard and Michael Gurnitz.

Born in Joliet, a lifelong resident.  Graduated from Lockport High School.  Ray was an U.S. Army Veteran.  He worked at 7/11 but his greatest pride and joy was taking care of his great nieces and nephews.   A special thank you to Sue Curry and Amanda Chaves for the loving care given to Uncle Ray.

Funeral Services will be held, Tuesday March 26, 2024, 1:30 p.m. at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home.   Military Honors and interment will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park.    Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.  In lieu of flowers memorials to Gentiva Hospice would be appreciated.
