Ronald J. Fowler Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025, at Silver Cross Hospital, in New Lenox, Illinois, with his beloved family by his side. Born on July 18, 1946, in Joliet, Illinois, Ron lived a life characterized by love, compassion, and a commitment to the values he held dear.
A proud U.S. Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam War, Ron carried the spirit of camaraderie and duty throughout his life. After dedicating 35 years to Carpenter's Local #174, he transitioned into a part-time role at Expert Optics, showing his commitment to hard work and providing for his family.
Ron was not just defined by his career; he was a dedicated family man. He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren. His loving and kind nature was evident to all who had the privilege of knowing him. A true friend to many, his easy smile could light up any room, and his home was a welcoming haven for family and friends alike. Whether hosting gatherings or simply sharing stories, Ron had a unique gift for making everyone feel special and included.
His passions beyond work were numerous; he found great joy in traveling and sightseeing with his family, enjoying moments of leisure playing cards, watching television, cooking, and working on his beloved home. Ron’s zest for life shone brightly in all that he did, and his loving demeanor created lasting memories that will forever be cherished by those he held dear.
Ron was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, a testament to his faith and commitment to his community. He is survived by his devoted wife, Judy (Minnick) Fowler; his daughter, Kristi Castillo; and his son, Ronald (Kim) Fowler Jr. Also Mark Castillo and David Brezak. He delighted in the lives of his grandchildren, Carson (Genesis) Castillo, Kaylyn Castillo, and Joshua (Alexandra) Fowler, who brought him boundless joy. He also leaves behind his sisters, Brenda (Sam) Fenili and Loretta Blankenship; brother William Fowler; sisters-in-law, Debbie (Mike) Buske and Denise (Tim Alexander) Johnson; and brothers-in-law, John (Terry) Minnick and Roy (Nancy) Minnick.
Ronald was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Renee Whalen, as well as his mother, Loretta Wortmann; father, Leo Wortmann; and sister, Judy Ashley. Their memories live on in the hearts of those who loved them.As we gather to celebrate Ron's life, we invite friends and family to join the visitation on March 28, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home in Joliet, followed by another visitation on March 29, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Messiah Lutheran Church, where a funeral service will commence at 11:00 AM. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials to Messiah Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society in Ron’s name would be appreciated.
Ronald J. Fowler Sr. will be deeply missed, but his spirit will linger on in the lives he touched, the love he shared, and the legacy he leaves behind. May we remember him as the loving man who lived for others and made every moment count.
