Sarah Freehauf, a beloved soul who brought joy and light wherever she went, passed away suddenly on July 21, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and warmth. Born on May 6, 1980, in Joliet, IL, Sarah's presence impacted the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Sarah's mischievous spirit shone through in her career at ExxonMobil Refinery, where she was known as a prankster amongst her colleagues. Despite her playful nature, she approached her work with dedication and professionalism, earning the respect and admiration of those around her.Sarah found solace and joy in various hobbies and interests outside her professional life. An avid Lego builder, a passionate traveler, a devoted sports fan, and a music enthusiast—she embraced every moment with enthusiasm and zest.
The family was at the core of Sarah's being. She is survived by her cherished son Oscar, loving parents Tony and Anita Freehauf, sisters Stefie Shen (Paul) and Anamae Funnell (Tom), as well as nieces and nephews Liam, Luci, Leo Shen, Ace, Archer, and Toni Funnell and her furry friend Emmit. In their time of profound grief, may they find comfort in the special memories they shared with Sarah. Sarah was preceded by her maternal grandparents, Franklyn and Stefie Norem; paternal grandparents, Bill and Anamae Freehauf and Godfather John Manifold.
Memories of Sarah's vibrant spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her best. A Memorial Gathering followed by a Memorial Service will be held on July 27th to honor Sarah's life at St. John Lutheran Church in Joliet. Visitation will be at 10 am, followed by a service at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Sarah's name can be made to Rush University Hospital, Neurosurgery Research Unit, or St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Although we mourn Sarah Freehauf's death, we take solace in knowing that her spirit now resides in a place of eternal peace. May we cherish the moments we shared with her and keep her memory alive through the laughter she brought into our lives.
